The Swiss Foundation for Mine Action , proper name FSD ( French F ondation S uisse de D éminage ) was a non-governmental organization in 1997 in Geneva founded. The FSD is ZEWO certified and politically, ideologically and religiously neutral.

activities

The foundation has been reporting on its activities in annual reports since 1999. The focus is on:

  • Humanitarian mine clearance
  • Mine clearance training
  • Prevention of accidents with mines and unexploded ammunition
  • Destruction of mine and ammunition stores and weapons

In 2005 the FSD carried out humanitarian de-mining operations in the following countries: Sudan , Burundi , Democratic Republic of the Congo , Angola , Sri Lanka , Tajikistan and Laos . In recent years the FSD has also worked in Albania , Croatia , Bosnia , Afghanistan , Iraq , Pakistan and the Philippines .

A number of mine clearance operations were carried out in 2016.

In 2005, 10 people worked in the Geneva headquarters. The international demining activities involve 60 international experts and 500 national deminers, all of whom have been trained by the FSD.

The budget for 2005 was 18 million Swiss francs. The FSD is funded by private and public donations and contributions. Often, however, the organization worked directly on behalf of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), UNMAS , or the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
