The Swiss Association for Student History (SVSt) (French: Association suisse pour l'histoire des sociétés d'étudiants (ASHSE)) is an association according to Art. 60 ff. ZGB and is open to all those who are interested in Swiss educational , University and student history.

Goal setting

The aim of the SVSt is:

  • to collect and preserve student cultural assets, for which it maintains an archive , a library and a collection of museum objects,
  • to publish student historical news and research in the association's organs,
  • to promote the personal exchange of experiences between the members through events.

history

On December 15, 1984, on the initiative of Peter Platzer , Paul Ehinger and Rätus Luck, 23 interested people from ten Swiss student associations met in Bern to found the SVSt. Today it consists of a little more than 600 individual (natural persons) and collective members (legal persons) from Switzerland, but also from neighboring, mainly German-speaking countries.

It has presided over five presidents since it was founded:

  • until 1986 Rätus Luck, Bern
  • until 1994 Paul Ehinger, Zofingen
  • until 2010 Peter Platzer, Solothurn
  • until 2014 Stephan Aebersold, Bern
  • since 2014 Bendicht Rindlisbacher, Zurich

Commissions

The SVSt maintains various commissions, each headed by a board member (assessor) as chairman.

Archives Commission

The archive commission looks after the SVSt archive, which is kept in the Bern State Archives and is publicly accessible there.

Library Commission

The library commission oversees the SVSt library, which was a deposit library in the Swiss National Library until summer 2017 and was publicly accessible via the Helveticat online catalog . The stocks are currently in storage, the SVSt is looking for a new location. The SVSt library is based on the SWR library founded by Max Richter, which has received significant additions through some bequests. In 2014/15 she received a well-known donation of around 2,000 monographs from Basel collector Robert Develey, which has since been added to the catalog bit by bit. In 1986 it became the property of the SVSt and today has a collection of over 3,000 monographs and over 100 periodicals.

Collection and Exhibition Commission

The Collection and Exhibition Commission (SAK) oversees an extensive student history collection of museum objects, from which thematic exhibitions are organized from time to time. In the meantime, the SVSt also had its own museum. In 1985 she took over the already existing Couleur Museum at Schloss Hünegg in Hilterfingen, which was terminated by the owners in 1990 after a number of successful exhibitions. From 1997 to 2001 the Couleur Museum was located in Assens and from 2002 to 2008 in the Museum Altes Zeughaus in Solothurn. The holdings are currently being kept in the former Willisau arsenal, and a new exhibition project is being planned.

Research Commission

The main task of the research commission founded in 2002 is to raise awareness of the historicity of Swiss student associations. From time to time, it organizes training events and publishes guides on topics such as archiving , oral history , etc.

Events

The SVSt has two events, the general convention , which takes place every autumn as a general assembly, and the student historians' conference, which took place regularly until 2009. Today it is only held every four years as a European Student Historians Conference:
