Eugene Lüthy

Eugen Lüthy (born July 15, 1927 in Mellingen ; † December 17, 1990 in Bern , legal domicile in Holziken ) was a Swiss professional officer ( corps commander ).

Life

Eugen Lüthy attended the teachers' college in Solothurn from 1943 to 1947 and then worked as a teacher from 1947 to 1951 . From 1949 to 1951 he worked as a community clerk in Gossliwil before doing language stays in England and France from 1951 to 1953 .

From 1955 he worked as an instruction officer in the Swiss Army and was promoted to the General Staff in 1962 . From 1971 to 1972 he was with the Infantry School at Fort Benning . From 1973 to 1977 he was Head of the Planning Section and was then appointed Division General in 1978 . From then on he was Deputy Chief of Planning from 1978 to 1980 and from 1981 to 1985 led Field Army Corps 2 in the rank of corps commander .

For four years, from 1986 to the end of 1989, he was Chief of Staff. Under his leadership, the army was further modernized and was able to increase its defense potential. This was achieved through the creation of alarm formations to protect the airports, through the purchase of aircraft, and the introduction of the Panzerjäger 90 .
