Arthur Liener

Arthur Ludwig Liener (born May 12, 1936 in Bern ) is a former Swiss professional officer ( corps commander ) and chief of staff .

Life

Liener attended schools in Bern and Thun. After graduating from high school, studied physics, chemistry, mineralogy and business administration and was awarded a Dr. phil. nat. PhD. In his dissertation he dealt with the immersion of meteorites in the earth's atmosphere. In 1967 he became a civil servant in the Federal Department of Home Affairs . In 1969 he became head of the Planning Procedure Section in the staff of the General Staff Service Subgroup. In 1974 he became deputy director. In 1991 he was appointed director of the Federal Office for Genius and Fortresses and a division general.

He was in command of Howitzer Department 30, Supply Regiment 13 and Fortress Brigade 23. In 1997, Liener resigned prematurely after five years in office as Chief of Staff after he was withdrawn from Friedrich Nyffenegger by the then Federal Councilor Adolf Ogi in connection with the so-called "Nyffenegger Affair" was.

From January 1, 1999 to spring 2010, he worked as an ombudsman for the Tages-Anzeiger .

He is a member of the FDP Switzerland .
