Hans-Ulrich Scherrer

Hans-Ulrich Scherrer (born May 17, 1942 in Lichtensteig ) is a former Swiss professional officer . He was in command of Field Division 7 and from 1998 to 2002 Chief of Staff of the Swiss Army .

Life

Scherrer was born in 1942 as the son of a Toggenburg country doctor. After obtaining the Matura Type C at the Trogen Cantonal School , Scherrer was certified as a lieutenant in 1964. He attended military schools I, II, III at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, completed a commanders course in Hammelburg , took an Infantry Officers Advanced Course at the Infantry School Fort Benning and attended the Columbia Business School .

Scherrer worked as an instructor in recruit schools, officers and central schools. He was deputy commandant of the Walenstadt shooting school , commandant of the mountain infantry recruit school Chur and commandant of field division 7. On March 17, 1997, he was elected Chief of Staff of the Swiss Army, in January 1998 he took up the post and held it until his resignation in 2002 .

Since his retirement he has worked as a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Chur and as a senior partner of the management consultancy PRO4S & Partner.

Scherrer is married and has two sons. His hometowns are Mosnang and Chur (honorary citizens).
