Rudolf Paravicini
Rudolf Paravicini (born July 28, 1815 in Basel ; † February 14, 1888 there ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and officer .
Life
Rudolf Paravicini completed a commercial apprenticeship and joined the silk ribbon factory Dietrich Preiswerk & Co., whose owner he became in 1847. From 1845 to 1884 Paravicini was a Grand Councilor in Basel . In 1863 he was co-founder and from 1864 to 1888 Chairman of the Board of Directors of Basler Insurance .
In his military career Paravicini became an artillery officer in 1835 , in 1847 he was the battery chief of the only Basel unit in the Sonderbund War , and in 1858 he became a colonel. As Chief of Staff , he carefully managed the internment of 87,000 soldiers of the Bourbaki Army in Switzerland during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 .
