Controversy

In March 2010 it became known that André Blattmann in the National Council's Security Commission (SiK NR) had assessed the states of Spain, France, Italy and Portugal as being at risk of crisis. At a meeting of the SiK NR, Blattmann had presented a map on which potential social, societal and military hot spots in Europe and North Africa were marked. The presentation caused a sensation, especially in connection with Blattmann's statement that the economic situation in Greece could lead to migration flows that could make an army deployment necessary. The National Councilor Evi Allemann ( SP ) described Blattmann's card as unsuitable because it lists threats that are not a matter for the army. Jakob Büchler , who chairs the SiK, invited Blattmann to clarify.

At a seminar for general staff officers on April 29, 2016, Blattmann described the television presenter Sandro Brotz as “Sandro Kotz” and demanded that an unknown person who had leaked military files to the media be taken “to the slaughter”, and that he also wanted this “traitor” «To degrade by hand» (which, however, requires a court judgment). These statements were recorded with a smartphone and also leaked to the media.
