Corps commander Thomas Süssli (born September 24, 1966 in Zurich ) is a Swiss professional officer. He has been Chief of the Army since January 1, 2020 .

Civil career

After completing his basic training, Thomas Süssli qualified as a federal dipl. Programmer / analyst training to become a federal dipl. Business IT specialist. In 2010 he also completed the Executive Master of Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences (HTW) in Chur . From 1989 to 2001 he held various functions at UBS in Basel , Zurich and London . From 2001 until 2007 he was an entrepreneur and co-owner of IFBS AG in Zurich. From 2008 to 2009 he was Director of Investment Banking at Bank Vontobel AG in Zurich, responsible for business development and sales of the bank's collateral trading offering. From 2009 to 2011 he was Executive Director in the Transaction Banking division. In 2011 he moved to Credit Suisse in Zurich and became Director of Global External Asset Managers. In October 2014 he became CEO of Vontobel Financial Products in Singapore . There he was responsible for Bank Vontobel AG's market entry in Asia until he joined the professional officer corps in 2015.

Military career

In his militia function, he was the commandant of medical company 22 and of the hospital battalion 5 of field division 5 . From 2008 he was on the staff of the logistics brigade as deputy chief of logistics and most recently, until the end of 2014, as deputy commander. In 2015, the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport announced that Thomas Süssli would be promoted to Commander of Logistics Brigade 1 and at the same time to Brigadier. On January 1, 2018, he was promoted to Chief Command Support Base of the Army and at the same time to Division General. As of January 1, 2020, Süssli was promoted to Chief of the Army and Corps Commander.
