Hans Senn

Hans Senn (born July 6, 1918 in Aarau , † September 22, 2007 in Bern ; resident in Zofingen ) was a Swiss historian , entrepreneur and officer . From 1977 to 1980 he was Chief of Staff of the Swiss Army .

Life

Hans Senn was the son of the forest engineer Max Emanuel Senn. He graduated from the Aarau Cantonal School and joined the Argovia association . He studied law , history and German at the Universities of Zurich and Bern and received his doctorate in 1945 on General Hans Herzog .

He completed active service from 1939 to 1945 as a Mitrailleur - platoon leader .

He completed his military training at the École supérieure de guerre in Paris. In the sixties, as head of the operations section, he was an advocate of a possible nuclear strike , just like the Federal Council in the 1950s. From 1977 to 1980 he was Chief of Staff of the Swiss Army and Corps Commander of Field Army Corps 4 .

He was a member of the Swiss Association for Military History and Science and the Swiss Society for Military History Study Trips. He wrote several military history works.

Hans Senn was married to Marion Aerni since 1950.
