The Schwelm mass limestone valley is a small-scale natural spatial unit with the order number 337 1 .31 in the urban area of the Westphalian town of Schwelm and the Bergisch city of Wuppertal within the Wuppertal valley .

The elongated and flat valley basin of the Schwelme (200 m) occupies the Schwelm town center and the Wuppertal district of Langerfeld and is open to the Wupper in the west. In the north ( Linderhauser ridge ), east and south ( Ehrenberg ) there are higher ridges made of slate and greywacke . The valley itself consists of karstified mass limestone with stream shrinkage at the limestone borders in the north and south.

The north of the natural area is used for agriculture. The southern edge, on the other hand, has a contiguous urban development with residential and industrial areas. The federal highway 7 and the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway line follow the Schwelme river in the valley. The Düsseldorf-Derendorf-Dortmund Süd railway line, which used to run parallel, has been closed and the route has been partially built over.
