action

The series is about Maksim Kalinin, a Moscow detective who specializes in fighting organized crime . Maksim is a war veteran, he was a captain in the airborne troops in the Second Chechnya War .

During an operation, Maksim arrests a dangerous criminal who has kidnapped a child and put up armed resistance when he was arrested. But then Maksim is summoned to his superior, the militia officer Gennady Timurovich Muratov. Muratov explains to him that the person arrested is the nephew of "a very good person". Muratov slips Maksim a large sum of money and tells him that he has to see to it that the arrested person gets away with a suspended sentence. Maksim takes the money first and goes home, visibly saddened. He remembers looking into the kidnapped child's face. The next day, Maksim appears at work and throws the money and his ID card at his superior's feet.

The arrested criminal then actually only gets a suspended sentence. Maksim meets the criminal in a restaurant, where he "celebrates" his release. When the criminal goes to the bathroom, Maksim follows him. In the toilet, Maksim pronounces his own "judgment" on the criminal and rams a knife into his throat.

From then on, Maksim decides to found a group to stand in the way of crime by killing the suspected criminals without an official trial and judgment. Maksim soon made his way to Krasnoyarsk , where his army friend Konstantin Orlov lives, his nickname is "Kostyan". The only 28-year-old Kostyan is a sergeant and an excellent sniper . Maksim persuades Kostyan to join his group and come to Moscow with him. In the beginning, the two men have little money and only two weapons (a Makarov and a self-loading gun of the "Saiga" type). They rent a remote warehouse from where they control their activities. They want to get additional money by taking it from the "punished" criminals. In their first operation, they track down the deal between two local drug gangs who deal in heroin . Kostjan shoots from a distance into the gas tank of one of the cars that belong to the drug dealers. After the explosion, Maksim rushes to the drug dealers and shoots all members of the gang.

In the course of their activity, Maksim and Kostjan manage to recruit more members for their group. These are people who have had similar experiences to Maksim.

Kostyan travels to Vladikavkaz to get more weapons. On the train he meets Nikolai Sawkin. Sawkin is a former agent of the FSB ; he retired after sustaining an injury in a counter-terrorist operation in Chechnya . Kostjan manages to win Sawkin for the group.

Anton Karew becomes a further member of the group. He used to work as an investigator in the militia. While on duty, he beat a pre-trial sex offender who raped an underage girl to death and was sentenced to five years in prison. After his release, he struggled with mental health problems.

The group is also joined by the public prosecutor Olga Stepnenko and the doctor and surgeon Elena Schurova (Schurova's husband was a detective and was fatally injured when he was arrested). The last member to join is the riot police Dmitri Tschischow; the youngest member of the group at the age of 21. His nickname is "Tschisch".

With the help of its members, Maksim manages to build a well-organized and effective group that tracks down criminals and "punishes" them. The journalists on television call the group “People's Avenger” and give it the name “Sword”. The opponents of “sword” include, on the one hand, the criminal gangs and, on the other hand, the judicial organs. Both hunt the group.

Among the victims of these "people's avengers" are:

  • A gang of so-called "black brokers" who gain trust from older people and use fraudulent methods to rip off their properties or kill them straight away,
  • the hardened robber and murderer Balashov,
  • a necrophilic pervert who first kills women and then rapes them,
  • a gang that produces and distributes child pornography ,
  • many drug dealers and other criminals.
