Schynige Platte:
the shining slate between the mountain railway and the restaurant / hotel
behind the Gumihorn climbing rock and on the left the Tuba (Daube) panoramic mountain
on the left edge of Lake Brienz

The Schynige Platte ( [ʃiniɡə platə] ; literally <translucent plate> is on a mountainside in the Bernese Oberland near Interlaken lying area within a rock wall from shale . This rock face is intense light reflecting particularly when wet like rain and acts as a glowing or . translucent plate .

It is the right flank of the aforementioned ridge, which, starting from the Schynigen Platte, runs roughly parallel to the south-east bank of Lake Brienz to the north-east. From the ridge you can see Lake Brienz on the left and the Black Lütschine valley coming from Grindelwald on the right, and behind it the mountain panorama of the Eiger , Mönch and Jungfrau .

A mountain restaurant and hotel is located directly above the slate rock face, and the Schynige Platte cogwheel railway passes directly below it to its nearby mountain station (altitude 1967  m ). Several hiking trails start at the station, including circular hiking trails to the nearby peaks of the Gumihorn (altitude 2099  m ), Tuba (or Daube , altitude 2076  m ) and Oberberghorn (altitude 2069  m ) and a high path to Faulhorn - First - ( Grindelwald ) are located. A special attraction is a botanical alpine garden with several hundred different plant species in their natural plant communities near the mountain station.

The ridge at Schynigen Platte is part of the border between the communities of Gsteigwiler and Gündlischwand .
