Scolymus grandiflorus is a species of the genus Scolymus in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Scolymus grandiflorus is a perennial plant . In this species the stems are winged throughout . The corollas are hairy white on the outside and are 23 to 25 millimeters long. The bracts are covered with numerous hairs, the outer ones suddenly contract into a thorny point. The pappus consists of two, three or four bristles.

Occurrence

Scolymus grandiflorus occurs in the central Mediterranean area. It is native to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, France, Italy, Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, the Balearic Islands and the Aegean Sea. Their originality is doubtful in Tenerife, Spain, Turkey and Lebanon. In Corsica she is a neophyte.
