Scorpidium (German Skorpionsmoose ) is a genus of moss from the order of the Hypnales . The name refers to the puffy, thickened and curved branch ends that are reminiscent of the abdomen of a scorpion .
features
They are medium to strong, sometimes reddish-tinged plants with sparsely branched stems. The trunk cross-section shows a narrow central cord and a hyalodermis. The foliage is tile-like to puffy-catkin-shaped. The broadly lanceolate to egg-shaped, gradually to rapidly narrowing to the tip, hollow leaves are one-sided to sickle-shaped and not wrinkled. The leaf vein is simple or short and double or absent. The few leaf wing cells are inflated and decrepit, the cells in the middle of the leaf are linear.
The gender distribution is diocesan or autocratic . Capsules are upright or horizontal.

The representatives of the genus occur in the Holarctic, in western to southern South America and in Australia.

The delimitation of the genus is seen differently. According to Frey, 4 types are assigned to it.
