Scott T. Brady

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scott T. Brady (born before 1973) is a cell and molecular biologist at the University of Illinois at Chicago .

Live and act

Brady earned a bachelor's degree in physics and biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973 and a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology with William McClure at the University of Southern California . As a postdoctoral fellow he worked with Raymond Lasek at Case Western Reserve University , where he was also a member of the faculty of the Anatomical Institute from 1981. From 1985 Brady was at the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, before moving to the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2001 . Today (as of 2014) he is professor of anatomy and cell biology.

Brady deals with the neuron (nerve cell) as a model for basic questions in cell and molecular biology. He is particularly interested in questions of the molecular mechanisms of axonal transport , the specialization of the neuronal cytoskeleton , the modulation of neuronal function by glial cells and the influence of physiological stress on neurons. He is one of the discoverers of the kinesin system of molecular motors ( motor proteins ). More recent work deals with the importance of axonal transport for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease , Parkinson's disease or Huntington's disease .
