Sean PF Hughes
Sean Patrick Francis Hughes (born December 2, 1941 in Farnham (Surrey) , England ) is a British medical doctor and professor emeritus for orthopedic surgery.
Career
After studying medicine in London , he was trained at Middlesex Hospital , among others . He turned to the academic career and worked in research and teaching at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and Hammersmith Hospital in London. In 1981 he was appointed to the orthopedic chair at the University of Edinburgh . Clinically, he worked as an Honorary Consultant at the Princess Margaret Rose Orthopedic Hospital . With the physicist Ian McCarthy, the laboratory technician Stuart Robertson and many colleagues, he carried out basic physiological research (bone perfusion, bone infections). He had a particular clinical interest in degenerative disc disease. He developed an external fixator (Hughes-Sukhtian) to treat open fractures. In 1991 he was appointed to Imperial College London . As a clinician, he worked at Charing Cross Hospital and led the orthopedic service for the Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust . He lives in Gloucestershire with his wife, Felicity Hughes, a bacteriologist . Two daughters and one son have grown up.
