Sean Parker (* 3. December 1979 ) is an American Internet - entrepreneurs . He is a co-founder of Napster , Plaxo and Causes , and was a consultant to Facebook Inc.

Life

Parker studied at Oakton High School until 1998. In 1999, Parker co-founded the Napster music exchange . Napster had to be set due to copyright infringement at the instigation of the Recording Industry Association of America in 2001, but was later founded again.

In November 2002, Parker co-founded Plaxo, Inc. , a Californian company that provides social networking services and software for the decentralized management of networked online address books. He left the company after unknown disputes with Sequoia Capital and Ram Shriram.

In 2004, Parker began advising the Facebook team and received a 7% stake in Facebook. When Parker was arrested for cocaine possession , he was forced to leave Facebook.

Since 2006, Parker has been a Managing Partner at the California venture capital firm The Founders Fund . While working there, he became aware of the music streaming service Spotify in 2009 and contacted its founder Daniel Ek . Shortly thereafter, Parker invested $ 15 million in Spotify and later became a member of the board of directors .

In 2015 he founded the Parker Foundation with his wife Alexandra, which they provided with an amount of US $ 600 million. The foundation is dedicated to promoting science ("life sciences"), public health and civic engagement.
