Sean Michael Rooney (born November 13, 1982 in Wheaton, Illinois ) is an American volleyball player .

Career

Rooney got into volleyball in high school. From 2002 to 2005 he played on the team at Pepperdine University , with whom he won the 2005 NCAA championship. He then went to South Korea and became national champions twice in a row with the Hyundai Skywalkers . At the same time, he played some tournaments on the AVP Tour as a beach volleyball player and achieved fifth place as the best result. In May 2007, the outside attacker made his debut in the US national team , with which he triumphed at both the NORCECA Championship and the Pan American Games in the same year . He then moved to the Russian club Dinamo-Jantar Kaliningrad . In 2008 Rooney won the world league with the US team and secured the gold medal by winning the final in the Olympic tournament against Brazil . He moved to Fakel Novy Urengoy within the Russian league . In 2009 he was runner-up at NORCECA with the USA. A year later, the Italian club Gabeca Volley Monza signed the American. In 2012 he was in the squad for the Olympic Games in London .
