Pleuridium (German Seitenköpfchenmoose ) is a genus of deciduous moss from the family Ditrichaceae .
features
They are small, cleistocarpic mosses with stems that are less than one centimeter in size. These are leaf-like in tufts, so the top leaves are larger than the bottom. The up to 2 millimeters long leaves are upright or slightly twisted on one side and tapering from the ovate-lanceolate, more or less sheathed base into a long awl tip. The wide rib completely fills the awl part. The Sporogons have a very short seta and an egg-shaped, cleistocarpic capsule sunk into the leaves.
Systematics and types
Pleuridium is closely related to the genera Ditrichum and Cleistocarpidium . Pleuridium species can form hybrids with Ditrichum pallidum .
The cosmopolitan genus Pleuridium includes 30 species worldwide. The following 2 types are represented in Europe:
Pleuridium palustre has recently been part of the genus Cleistocarpidium and is now called Cleistocarpidium palustre .
