The Ditrichaceae are a family of deciduous mosses from the order Dicranales .
features
They are acrocarpic , small to strong mosses with upright trunks. The leaves are ovate to long awl-shaped, have a strong rib that takes up the entire length of the leaf and square to rectangular, smooth or nipple-like lamina cells. Leaf-wing cells are not differentiated. Spore capsules either have a lid or are celistocarp . A peristome may or may not be present.
distribution
The mosses of the family are widespread in the northern and southern hemispheres, mainly in the temperate and subtropical zones. They grow on earth and rock.
Systematics
The Ditrichaceae family is likely polyphyletic . In the past it was also listed as part of the Dicranaceae . The mosses of the Ditrichaceae have peristomal teeth that are divided right down to the base into two thread-like, papillary branches. A clear demarcation from the Dicranaceaen is difficult.
