Sebastián Almagro Castellanos

Sebastián Almagro Castellanos (born November 18, 1923 in Escañuela , Andalusia , † August 16, 2006 in Córdoba (Spain) ) was a Spanish entrepreneur and pilot .

Life

After studying at the military aviation academy, he became a military pilot in the Spanish Air Force in 1943. In the 1950s, Sebastian Almagro was two-time world champion in glider aerobatics with a Lo 100 from the German designer Alfred Vogt .

In the mid-1960s he finished his military aviation career, moved to the province of Córdoba and built the Aeródromo de Palma del Río airport . In 1966 he founded the aviation company Fumigación Aérea Andaluza SA (FAASA), which initially only operated agricultural aircraft .

In 1984 the company already had 12 special sprayers and extinguishers that were used to fight forest and wildfire. In 1998 the fleet was expanded to include the first helicopters. In 2005, Castellanos already employed around 300 people and operated a fleet of around 80 aircraft and helicopters.

Almagro Sebastian Castellanos, who is referred to as a aviator, died on August 16, 2006 in the Princesa Sofía Hospital in Cordoba. In his life he flew around 28,000 hours on more than 200 types of aircraft, including military jets, cargo, fire-fighting and spraying planes, gliders and other models.

Today his company operates in 25 regions in Spain, 6 regions in Chile and 15 regions in the Andean Community of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

Honors

In 2001, Sebastián Almagro became an honorary citizen of the city of Palma del Río. In 2002 the Spanish Air Force dedicated a cover and an article to him in their magazine Aeroplano, Figuras de la Aviación Española Sebastián Almagro .

Posthumously

After his death, the Aeródromo de Palma del Río was renamed in his name and the Fundación Sebastián Almagro was founded. The Fundación specifically supports the young aviators and the associated tourism in the Córdoba region with an annual amount of 75,000 euros.
