Sebastián López

Sebastián López (* 1949 in Argentina ) is an Argentine - Dutch art historian , curator and publicist . He lives in Amsterdam and since 2007 in London .

life and work

Sebastián López was born in Argentina, has lived in Amsterdam since 1981 and became a Dutch citizen . He completed his master's degree at the National University of Tucumán in Argentina, after which he completed postgraduate studies in contemporary art, linguistics and literature at the Complutense University in Madrid. López was a lecturer in art history and architecture at various universities in the Netherlands and taught at the University of Paris V in France.

In 1995 López made a contribution to the symposium: The Marco Polo Syndrome in the House of World Cultures in Berlin : From 1997 to 2005 he was director of the Gate Foundation, which was established in 1988 to facilitate intercultural exchange with Africa, Asia, Latin America and Oceania promote. López curated the 5th Shanghai Biennale with the theme Techniques of the Visible in 2004. From 2005 to 2007 he was a founding member and artistic director of the Daros Latinamerica Collection in Rio de Janeiro . He was the director of the Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) art center in London, founded in 1994 , which visualizes contemporary artists, authors and curators. From 2007 to 2008 López was one of the founders of the CEO showroom at Rivington Place in Shoreditch , in London ’s East End .
