Sebastian Herkner (* 1981 in Bad Mergentheim ) is a German product designer and university lecturer .

Life

Herkner studied at the Offenbach am Main University of Design , where he was already involved in the design of furniture and objects. In doing so, he combined different materials using new technologies and traditional craftsmanship. During his studies, which he graduated with a diploma in 2007, he did an internship with the designer Stella McCartney in London . In 2006 he founded his own design studio Stud | o Sebast | an Herkner in Offenbach .

Herkners Studio has worked for companies such as B. Bullerjan , Pulpo , Very Wood by Gervasoni , Moroso, Glasmanufaktur von Poschinger , Thonet , Wittmann and Rosenthal AG . He also works as an interior designer and designs exhibitions at trade fairs and museums. His Pipe Chair , designed for Moroso , is an example of a postmodern revival in furniture design.

Since 2007, Herkner has been a guest lecturer at his alma mater on several occasions .

In 2014/2015, Herkner worked in Zimbabwe with African and European artists and designers in the Basket Case project . The project was funded by the cultural institutes British Council , Alliance Française and the Goethe-Institut in Zimbabwe and was intended to enable new forms of design in cooperation with basket makers from the various regions of the country.
