Sebastian Mayer (rower)

Sebastian Mayer (born July 16, 1973 in Regensburg ) is a former German rower who was twice vice world champion in the 1990s.

The 1.92 m tall biology student from the Breisach rowing club was a victim of the 1995 German championships in double sculls together with Roland . In 1996 they won ahead of Marco Geisler and Marcel Hacker and were nominated for the Olympic Games in Atlanta ; there was victim and Mayer in sixth place. In 1997 Mayer won the German championship title in four-four together with Jens Burow , Marco Geisler and Stefan Roehnert . At the rowing world championships in 1997, Marcel Hacker came on board for Mayer, the double-scull won the silver medal behind the Italians. In 1998 Mayer, Geisler, Hacker and Roehnert won the title at the German championships, with this line-up the boat also took second place at the 1998 World Rowing Championships , as in 1997 the Italians won the gold medal.

Between 1998 and 2000 Sebastian Mayer and Stefan Roehnert won the German championship title in double sculls. At the 1999 World Rowing Championships , the two took second place behind the Slovenian boat. The Slovenes also won the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Mayer and Roehnert rowed to fourth place in the Olympic final.

Sebastian Mayer subsequently took part twice in the Boat Race for the University of Cambridge. In 2002 his team was already promisingly in the lead when he suffered an asthma attack and his team fell back about three-quarters boat length behind the Oxford eight, significantly weakened. In his second participation in 2004, he clearly won with the Cambridge eight with a lead of around six boat lengths.
