Sebastian Ochsenkun , also Sebastian Ochsenkhun (born February 6, 1521 in Nuremberg , † August 20, 1574 in Heidelberg ), was a German lutenist and composer.

Life

Sebastian was the son of the Nuremberg instrument maker and barber Jörg Ochsenkun.

He was a lute player for Count Palatine Ottheinrich zu Pfalz-Neuburg and in 1544 went to the Electoral Palatinate court in Heidelberg as lute master . In 1556, when Ottheinrich came to power in Heidelberg, Ochsenkun brought out a collection of songs and motets, Tabulaturbuch auff die Lauten ( German lute tablature ), which was published in Heidelberg in 1558 and, in addition to his own works, also contains arrangements of other people's compositions.

Sebastian Ochsenkun's sons Friedrich and Christoph Hartmann were students at Heidelberg University .
