Sebastian Sager (born March 7, 1975 in Westerstede ) is a German professor of mathematics . Since 2012 he has held the chair for mathematical optimization at the institute of the same name in the Mathematical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg .

Life

Sager studied mathematics with a minor in astronomy at Heidelberg University with stays abroad in Montpellier and Ho Chi Minh City . He completed his studies in 2001 with the diploma thesis "Long steps in the dual simplex" with Hans Georg Bock . From 2002 to 2005 he was a member of the international graduate school 710 "Complex Processes: Modeling, Simulation and Optimization" . He defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Numerical Methods for Mixed-Integer Optimal Control Problems" , supervised by Hans Georg Bock and Gerhard Reinelt, in 2006. After a stay abroad in 2007 at the Autonomous University of Madrid , he became head of a DFG junior research group in 2008 Graduate School "MathComp" at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing at the University of Heidelberg. In 2012 he completed his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg with the thesis "On the Integration of Optimization Approaches for Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Optimal Control" . Since 2012 he has held the W3 Chair for Mathematical Optimization at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

research

Sager is the author or co-author of more than 50 scientific papers . These deal in particular

One focus of his work is the use and development of optimization methods in the context of clinical decision-making processes. These are also the basis of the ERC Consolidator Grant Project Mathematical Optimization for Clinical Decision Support and Training .
