Sebastian Steiner (rider)

Sebastian Steiner (born November 19, 1987 , † September 18, 2010 in Montelibretti , Italy) was a Salzburg eventing rider.

Life

Sebastian Steiner came from an equestrian family. Sister Bettina is a known dressage rider and father Christian was as event riders like Sebastian Steiner himself. The young rider was Austrian junior champion in 2003 and 2005, and Salzburg provincial champion in the general class in 2004 and 2007. As a junior he took twice part in European Championships, as a young rider then another three times. In the general class, he finished fifth at the 2009 European Championships.

On September 18, 2010, Sebastian Steiner had an accident at a horse show in Italy, which took place a week before the world championship : He fell at the show in Montelibretti near Rome with his gelding Cartago and suffered fatal head injuries , according to the International Federation of FEI . The horse caught while jumping over the last obstacle and buried the rider with his shoulder.
