Bag master
Treasurer ( coffers Wart, Seckelmeister, Sekelmeister or treasurer , treasurer , cashier , cashier, treasurer u. Ä.) Is in Germany , Austria and Switzerland since the late Middle Ages usual designation for the manager or managers of a takings of public respectively for the community to using funds, assets ( state treasury ) or goods, be it in state administration , in associations or in political parties . The name is derived from the Old High German seckel 'purse', which in turn goes back to the Latin saccellus, diminutive of saccus 'sack'.
In Switzerland, the term Säckelmeister is still used today as a functional designation in some public administrations. In the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden , Säckelmeister is the official title of head of the finance department, i.e. H. of the Minister of Finance . Also at the municipal level, mostly in smaller municipalities in central Switzerland , it designates the person responsible for finances, as well as in associations ( e.g. guilds ).
In the Old Confederation, the administrator of the cantonal state treasury was usually referred to as the national bag master . In the city and republic of Bern , the German Seckelmeister was responsible for the administration of the goods and income in the German-speaking part and the Welsch Seckelmeister was responsible for the income generated in Vaud .
In general German-speaking usage, the term seems to continue to be used for treasurers in associations and political organizations .
