The Sedgwick Glacier is a glacier on Alexander I Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows from Mount Stephenson in the Douglas Range in an easterly direction to George VI Sound , which it reaches immediately north of Mount King .
The first measurements were made in 1936 by scientists from the British Graham Land Expedition (1934–1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . The Falklands Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) repeated this in more detail in 1948. It is named after the British geologist Adam Sedgwick (1785–1873), who worked at the University of Cambridge from 1818 until his death .
