The Streamer sedum ( Sedum sarmentosum ), also Kriechtrieb fat hen called, is a species of the genus of sedum ( Sedum ) in the family of Crassulaceae (Crassulaceae). The locally naturalized neophyte in Germany originally comes from East Asia.
description
The stolon stonecrop is an evergreen , perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 3 to 15 centimeters. The above-ground, prostrate, bald runners are up to 25 centimeters long. The leaves , arranged in whorls in three, are light yellowish-green, lanceolate, with entire margins, 1.3 to 2.5 inches long and 0.4 to 0.6 inches wide.
The branched, little-flowered inflorescences have a diameter of 5 to 6 cm. The sessile, hermaphrodite flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold. The five sepals are 3.5 to 5 mm long. The five yellow petals are pointed, 5 to 8 mm long and thus about twice as long as the sepals. There are two circles with five stamens each, which are shorter than the petals. The free carpels are 5 to 6 mm long. The flowering period extends from May to August.
The follicles ripen from August. The egg-shaped seeds are about 0.5 mm in size.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 58.
Occurrence
The area of the sedum plant includes northern and central China , Korea , Japan and northern Thailand . Here this species occurs in shady places such as rocks, creek rubble and walls below altitudes of 1,600 meters.
It has grown wild from gardens in northern Italy, the Balkan Peninsula, Spain, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and locally also in Germany.

The stonecrop is rarely used as an ornamental plant , for example as a ground cover in rock gardens and alpine houses. It has been in culture since 1835 at the latest.
This type is used medicinally and is sometimes eaten as a vegetable.
