Seeking Raven is a German progressive rock band from North Rhine-Westphalia .

The group was founded in 2012 by János Romualdo Krusenbaum as a band implementation of a solo project.

history

Krusenbaum caught the attention of the American musician and studio owner James Strickler with his demo CD Lonely Art .

With his mastering, Strickler optimized the album recordings in his studio in Denver, Colorado and passed them on to the Austrian independent label WAR Productions. The label published Lonely Art worldwide in September 2012. International media responded largely positively; For example, the renowned German music magazine Legacy (music magazine) gave 13 out of 15 possible points, and the Dutch e-zine Lords Of Metal speaks of "passionate singing and beautiful melodies".

After the release of Lonely Art , Krusenbaum Seeking Raven continued as a band. It was composed of Maximilian Krüger ( guitar , backing vocals ), Patrick Gros ( keyboard , backing vocals), Jens Sieloff ( bass ) and Boris Frenkel ( drums ).

With this line-up, Seeking Raven toured from the beginning of 2013 to October 2015 both across Germany and in Belgium , France , Luxembourg , the Netherlands and Austria . Extensive touring, support shows for bands like Blaze Bayley or ZP Thearts (ex- DragonForce ) I Am I and appearances in some internet formats like Holger Kreymeier's "Massengeschmack-TV" gave the group an insider tip in the progressive music scene Status and was able to expand its level of awareness.

János Romualdo Krusenbaum wrote new pieces of music for the follow-up album to Lonely Art . The multi-instrumentalist recorded it mostly on his own during 2014, supported by Jens Sieloff on bass and various guest musicians.

After a change of drummer (Hanno Kerstan, Scanner , Mystic Prophecy ) Seeking Raven came across the interest of the German label Dr. Music Records to release the new CD.

In September 2015, however, Patrick Gros left the band for personal reasons. As a result, the band remained inactive for a short time. With the foundation of a multi-layered musical vision, Krusenbaum dissolved the previous line-up in October 2015.

In the first half of 2016, Krusenbaum completed acoustic sets together with guest musicians.

Due to the new band situation, the release date of the new CD The Ending Collage was postponed until the music label finally announced it for September 30, 2016.

In the second half of 2016, Krusenbaum found a new line-up in Jan Jerig (bass, backing vocals) and Martin Zang (drums, backing vocals), to which Max Krüger (guitar, backing vocals) from the original line-up also joined in February 2017.

The album The Ending Collage , which has now been released , was able to further expand the popularity of Seeking Raven in the scene and blossomed into a critics favorite of the trade press. Among other things, it was named "Album of the Month" by the French web magazine "Progcritique" and the well-known progressive rock encyclopedia Baby Blue Pages , and it received mostly high ratings, for example 9/10 points in "Silence Metal-Magazin".

In October 2017, through a successful crowdfunding campaign, the band raised the money for the production of a third album entitled A Tale of Life , which is planned for 2018.

In December 2017, a Facebook post announced the departure of bassist Jan Jerig, who was replaced by Bernd Juchems.

style

Even the debut album Lonely Art is difficult to pin down to one genre , despite the rough classification into progressive rock and progressive metal .

In addition to rock music and metal, there are also influences from classical music , folk and sometimes funk and jazz . In addition to the frequently used tempo and rhythm changes, the vocal work, which covers several octaves and styles from pop singing to classical singing to abstract whispers and head voices and is often used in several voices, is striking.

Compared to other genre representatives, catchy melodies and compact structures run through the music.

The follow-up album The Ending Collage continues this style in a slightly different way. The second work is quieter than the debut album and now tends more towards folk.

The Ending Collage is a concept album, as shown in recurring musical and lyrical themes.

With the third album, A Tale of Life , the band wants to unite the two musical extremes of the first two works.
