The Hoya glider airfield is located approx. 2 km northeast of Hoya between Hoya and Hassel in the center of Lower Saxony . The main user is the Hoya glider club.

history

Today Segelfluggelände located on the northern edge of an area that has a World War II military airfield of the Air Force was home. The port of operation at Hoya extended in the southwest to the gates of Hoya. This is where the barracks area was located , which today houses a technical aid school .

After the outbreak of the Second World War , the He 111P of Group II of Kampfgeschwader 28 (II./KG 28) coming from Gütersloh moved to Hoya at the beginning of November 1939 . KG 28 was renamed Kampfgeschwader 54 in December and relocated to Oldenburg in January 1940 .

In mid-August 1944, Hoya became a base for Bf 109G fighters. For the last three weeks in August the III. Jagdgeschwader 4 group (III./JG 4). In the middle of the month, the I. Group of Jagdgeschwader 27 (I./JG 27), which remained stationed in Hoya until October 1944, also met.

Operating data

The Hoya glider airfield is approved for the operation of gliders , motor gliders and air sports equipment (with the exception of parachutes) as well as for airplanes with a maximum permissible weight of up to 2,000 kg, insofar as these are used for towing gliders / motor gliders / air sports equipment and for flights related to this.

Allowed launch types are winch launch , self launch and aircraft tow. The height of the space is 56 ft (corresponds to 17 m above sea level) with a length of 900 m. The slope orientation is 12/30.

Motor-powered aircraft should use the Nordplatzrunde and should not fly over surrounding towns or circle around them with the engine running.

Infrastructure

The approximately 10,500 m² property, located directly on the Weser , was built on in 1993/94 with a functional building with an area of ​​around 1,000 m². The approx. 350 m² lounge area houses functional rooms, workshops for car, wood and fiberglass repairs, a briefing room and sanitary areas.

The hangar covers an area of ​​around 650 m².
