Segnosaurus (Eng. "Slow lizard") is a theropod dinosaur from the group of Therizinosauridae . He lived during the early Upper Cretaceous ( Cenomanium to Turonium ). The only known species is Segnosaurus galbinensis .

The genus is known from fragmentary skeletal parts of three specimens found in southern Mongolia and Inner Mongolia . These include parts of the vertebrae, lower jaw, pelvis, hind legs and incompletely preserved forelegs. A skull was not found.

features

The cervical vertebrae were large, elongated and had low neural processes, and the sacrum , reinforced by ossified ligaments , had six ribs. The humerus was less massive than other therizinosaurs. Like all therizinosaurs, Segnosaurus had strong arms and three fingers on the forehand, with the phalangeal formula 2-3-4. The shinbone reached more than 80% the length of the femur . Segnosaurus' foot was short and wide, the fifth toe was missing. Each branch of the lower jaw of Segnosaurus had 24 sharp-pointed teeth.

Segnosaurus was likely four to eight meters long and was a clumsy, biped- walking dinosaur.
