The silk-haired phacelia ( Phacelia sericea ) is a species of plant from the genus Phacelia in the family of the carnivorous family (Boraginaceae). This species is irritating to the skin.

features

The silk-haired phacelia is a perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. Leaves and stems are for the most part densely covered with close-fitting white hairs. The inflorescence resembles a candle. The crown is usually colored blue or purple, rarely white. At the base of the corolla tube there are 10 scales at the base of the stamens , which are arranged in pairs and are elongated to lanceolate .

The flowering period extends from May to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.

Occurrence

The silky-haired phacelia occurs in western North America on open and forested rocky slopes at altitudes of 2100 to 2700 meters.

Systematics

The first description of Phacelia sericea was in 1830 by Robert C. Graham as Eutoca sericea . Asa Gray placed the species in the genus Phacelia in 1862 .

The silk-haired phacelia is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens.
