The Semnoz is a mountain belonging to the Bauges massif near Annecy in the French department of Haute-Savoie . The highest point, called the Crêt de Châtillon , is 1699 meters above sea level.
On July 20, 2013, Semnoz was the destination of the 125 km long penultimate stage of the Tour de France , which began in Annecy .
The 17.4 km long, curvy ascent with an average gradient of 6.97% from Annecy to the Crêt de Châtillon summit has since become a mountain route that has often been popular with cyclists and motorcyclists.
The slopes of the Semnoz are also popular take-off points for paragliders.
