history
The Lucerne Section was founded on November 6, 1843 by six members and one candidate from the Swiss Student Association. The later Professor Alois Lütolf was the founding actuary . While the first decade was very changeable for the section due to external circumstances, the section life stabilized after 1853. Due to its uninterrupted existence, it was awarded the title semper fidelis (Always Treu) by the general association in 1863 . Since then the section has been called by this name. During the first few decades she was represented at both the lyceum and the theological seminary. In 1889 the Semper Fidelis was divided into an internal (theologian) and an external (lyceist) section, with the internal section taking the name Waldstättia in 1891 . The external section subsequently formed the actual Semper Fidelis, which in the course of the 20th century became a pure high school section. Semper Fidelis has been active again at the University of Lucerne since the 2006/07 winter semester .
New Years Eve
Probably the most traditional event for Semper Fidelis is the "New Year's Summer". This internationally renowned event attracts around 450 students and academics from all over Switzerland and neighboring countries to Lucerne every year. The first New Year's Eve took place on January 13, 1861 in the Lucerne Casino. Originally conceived as a commemoration for the Urschweizer Burgenbruch (according to tradition on New Year 1308), the New Year's summer experienced numerous reinterpretations. A special feature is that it has been taking place continuously since 1861, which is why the 150th New Year's Eve in a row was celebrated on December 29, 2009.
