Senanga is a place with a population of 10,000 (2006 estimate) in the Western Province in Zambia . To the west is Sesheke , to the north is the provincial capital Mongu . It is 1100 meters above sea level and is the seat of the administration of the district of the same name with 109,119 inhabitants (2000 census).

economy

There are extensive floodplains of the Zambezi where livestock and fishing are practiced. It is the district with the highest number of cattle and herds in the country. During the periodic flooding of the rainy season, the cattle can be brought into dry areas. The seeds in the fields are destroyed in high floods like in 2004.

Infrastructure

There is an unpaved, 1,200-meter-long airstrip, a hospital with an ambulance facility, elementary and secondary schools, a hotel and the only gas station on the road between Mongu and Livingstone .

Senanga lies on the Zambezi. A pontoon bridge runs south of the city, and the Mangweshi Ferry car ferry for heavy vehicles travels ten kilometers across the river if the water level is sufficient. On the way to the northwest into the Liuwa floodplains , this is the last chance to cross the stream. The Zambezi Bridge near Sesheke can also be used to access the Sioma-Ngweizi National Park in the southwest .
