Julius Gehl (born July 4, 1869 in Bromberg , † December 13, 1939 in Danzig - Sopot ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD and Social Democratic Party of the Free City of Danzig ) in Danzig.

Life

Julius Gehl was the son of a bricklayer and attended the seminary school in Bromberg from 1875 to 1883 ; 1884–1887 apprenticeship as a mason in Bromberg, then on wandering and military service.

1890–1908 employee and member of the main board of the Free Association of Masons in Germany based in Berlin . From 1908 to June 1912 employed Gauleiter of the Masons' Association based in Bromberg, later Danzig. From 1911 chairman of the trade union cartel in Bromberg. From July 1912 to April 1919 district party secretary for West Prussia , based in Danzig, at the same time chairman of the SPD district organization and from 1917–1918 part-time editor of the Danzig People's Guard . In 1921 Arthur Brill took over the chairmanship of the Social Democratic Party of the Free City of Danzig .

From 1914 he was the company sponsor of the People's Watch and chairman of the SPD education committee in Danzig. From 1915 to 1918 member of the price inspection bodies of the Gdansk administrative district. From May 1919 to January 1920 Reich Commissioner for West Prussia and the Netze District. In 1919 he was also elected to the Weimar National Assembly for constituency 2 (Province of Posen-West Prussia) .

From 1924 to 1936 Gehl was managing director of the Volksstimme publishing house in Danzig. From 1920 he was a member of the State Council of Danzig . From June 1923 to January 1924 and from December 1930 to March 1931 Gehl was President of the People's Day of the Free City of Danzig ; in other periods (1923, 1924–1930 and 1933) also Vice-President of Parliament. In the years 1925–1926, 1928–1930 and 1933 Gehl was a Vice President of the Senate of the Free City of Danzig . Between 1920 and 1933 he was - with interruptions - chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.
