The transmitter Ovce Pole is a transmitter built in 1970 in the village of Lozovo in North Macedonia . This is one of the strongest broadcasters (maximum transmission power: 1,200 kilowatts, current transmission power, however, reduced to 100 kW). The program of the public radio station Radio Makedonija 1 as well as foreign language programs in the evening will be broadcast.
Via the transmitter
This station, also known as the Skopje station, can be received on the frequency 810 kHz throughout Europe during the night hours. It is one of the most powerful broadcasters in Europe and has also been used for test broadcasts in DRM mode . A 185.4 meter high freestanding steel lattice tower is used as the transmitting antenna . The efficiency of the transmitting antenna is 94.5 percent. This has the effect that the transmitter has an effective radiated power of 1,510 kilowatts in the case of a radiated transmission power of 1,200 kilowatts, which, however, was only practiced for a short time.
history
The transmitter was put into operation on November 29, 1970 with an output of 1,000 kilowatts. The original transmitters were made by Brown, Boveri & Cie. , These were replaced in 2002 by transmitters from Thales Broadcast & Multimedia , which consist of three modules, each with 400 kilowatts of transmitting power. The new channels, which were financed by the Macedonian government and Deutsche Welle , officially started operating on June 10, 2002. In return for the financial participation of Deutsche Welle, it was allowed to broadcast two and a half hours of its own program in Macedonian, Albanian and Serbian on the station Ovce Pole. In 2006, Deutsche Welle ended its broadcasts again and the Macedonian radio has been broadcasting two hours a day of its own international programs in Bulgarian, Greek, Albanian and Serbian as a replacement. The rest of the time, the program will be broadcast by Radio Makedonija 1.
As of 2020, the transmission power is limited to 100 kW.
In June 2020, the transmitter was switched off for three weeks for previously unknown reasons and then put back into operation.
location
The transmitter is located on the western outskirts of Lozovo, a village on the Ovce Pole plateau. This is about 45 kilometers (as the crow flies) from the capital Skopje .
