The Pohorje transmitter is a radio and television broadcasting facility owned by Radiotelevizija Slovenija on the Bacher Mountains (Pohorje in Slovenian), a mountain range near Maribor and Hoče-Slivnica . A 72 meter high steel lattice tower is used as the antenna carrier .
history
Installation
The Pohorje transmitter went into operation on October 11, 1963. It initially broadcast two radio programs on the frequencies 88.5 MHz and 96.9 MHz and a television program on channel 11.
First extension
In 1966 the transmission tower was refurbished for the first time, a new VHF antenna was installed, making the tower 16 meters higher. At the same time, new TV channels were installed.
Second extension
The second expansion followed as early as 1973: In order to be able to transmit another VHF program, the transmission tower was raised by 15 meters. In the same year, the 93.1 MHz frequency began broadcasting.
Third extension
In 1983 the transmission tower was renovated and reinforced for the third time. Two years later, the 102.8 MHz frequency was put into operation for Radio SI .
Fourth extension
In 1996 a new transmitter was put into operation in order to be able to broadcast the ARS program on the frequency 105.3 MHz . A year earlier, a new television station for the private program Pop TV was put into operation.
particularities
Although it is designed as a free-standing steel lattice tower and stands in the middle of a forest area, it is guyed on two levels in six directions. Such an additional structural security measure is very unusual in a relatively low tower.
