Senergy 1 is a solar park near Méouane in the Senegalese department of Tivaouane in the Thiès region .
Geographical location
The solar park is located in the hinterland of the Grande-Côte , 24 kilometers away , the coastal dunes and the horticultural Niayes in an area of the peanut basin that is used for the cultivation of cassava . The fenced-in area extends over an area of 62.5 hectares. The plant was four and a half km northwest of the center of Mékhé at Mékhé village built in the immediate vicinity of a transmission line , in parallel with the N 2 of Dakar running in the north of the country and in which the current generated here interconnected network of Senelec can be fed .
history
As part of an initiative of the World Bank to promote solar energy and with support from USAID , two larger solar projects were started in Senegal in 2016 and went online in early 2017: Senergy 1 and the slightly smaller Senergy 2 in the north of the country.
Power generation
Around 96,000 solar modules with a nominal output of 30 MW were installed in the solar park on an approximately square base area of around 44 hectares with a side length of 660 meters. The importance for the Thiès region lies in the fact that rural areas, which were previously only dependent on the supply of off-grid solar energy providers, can now be connected to the grid at lower costs and with more security of supply.
