Senergy 2 is a solar park near Bokhol in Senegal's Dagana department in the Saint-Louis region . The Senergy 1 plant was built at the same time near the town of Mékhé in the Tivaouane department .

Geographical location

The solar park is located in an area with little vegetation, characterized by the Sahel zone , between the northern edge of the road of the N 2 and the Senegal lowland, which is on the other side, which is used intensively for agriculture . It extends over an area of around 25 hectares. The plant was four kilometers east of the center of Dagana built and next to a transformer station , which is across the street from the N2 and where the power generated here in the interconnected system of Senelec can be fed. Originally, this substation only served as the starting point for an overhead line connecting the Mauritanian capital , Nouakchott , which is supplied by the electricity provider SOMELEC , with the SENELEC network.

Construction phase

In January 2015, Greenwish Partners took over the planning and development of the project in northern Senegal. Construction work began in February 2016, implemented by the French Vinci Group . In October 2016, the power plant was completed and went into operation.

financing

A major factor in the financing of the project was a loan of US $ 20 million , which was provided by Green Africa Power, a financing company of the Private Infrastructure Development Group, on October 24, 2016.

Power generation

Assuming the standard test conditions for solar modules, the power plant has a nominal output of 20 MW. The importance for the Senegalese market is great, since the electricity production costs are 50% lower than the previous energy mix in the country. In addition, the power plant is to provide 160,000 people in northern Senegal with access to electricity .

The electricity generated will be sold to Senelec company Senelec for a period of 20 years through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) .

Jobs

During the construction work 150 jobs were created in the poor region, 25 workers are required in the company. Women were given preference in the distribution of positions.

Shares

45% of the share capital is held by the Senegalese Sovereign Fund and other local investors. 2% of the power plant's profit is paid out to the local population.
