Senior meeting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seniorentreff is a word creation from senior and meeting and describes a meeting place for older people.

Occurrence

Senior citizens' get-togethers have been set up in almost every larger municipality under the care of the parishes, charities or municipal sponsors. The rule here is that all meetings are informal and open to all senior citizens in a region or district. The number of local senior citizens' get-togethers in Germany is almost impossible to miss. Around 80 such institutions are officially registered in Hamburg and in Berlin-Reinickendorf alone there are 140 hobby and interest groups, most of which can be found in the senior leisure centers.

Social function

The social function of senior citizens' meetings is undisputed. The living situation of old people today is often characterized by loneliness after their active career . The children are out of the house and often no longer live in the neighborhood . The number of friends is decreasing and the loss of a partner is often to be complained about. In this situation, social contacts are more important than ever and this is where the offers of senior citizens' get-togethers come into play.

Social networks on the Internet as an organizational aid

If one's own mobility is also restricted, social networks such as senior citizens' meeting on the Internet , Feierabend.de or Facebook can help to overcome spaces and maintain contacts or make new ones. The function of these networks on the Internet is becoming more and more important as more and more seniors use the Internet . These networks on the Internet are not in competition with the traditional local senior meetings, but offer them a new way of organizing themselves.
