Sentier is an underground station on line 3 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Quartier du Mail in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways under the Rue Réaumur at its intersection with the Rue d'Aboukir.

Surname

It is named after the rue du Sentier, which flows into rue Réaumur. The origin of the street name is not clear. With “sentier” (path) is probably meant a footpath that led to the city wall. Possibly it is a modification of the similarly sounding term “chantier”. A “chantier de bois” is a wood store, the former branch of a wood merchant is assumed to be there.

History and description

The first section of line 3 from Villiers to Père Lachaise went into operation on October 19, 1904. The Sentier station located on it was not opened until December 1, 1904.

The station has side platforms under an elliptical, tiled ceiling vault on two parallel tracks. It has the original Parisian standard length of 75 m. One entrance is at the intersection of Rue Réaumur and Rue des Petits Carreaux, and a second is in a building.

vehicles

As a result of the accident at Couronnes station , line 3 was equipped with vehicles that ran on bogies from the start . The five-car trains consisted of three multiple units and two trailer cars . They were later replaced by Sprague-Thomson trains , which ran there until 1967. In that year, Line 3 was the first to receive the new MF 67 series , which runs classically on steel rails . These vehicles will still be in use there in 2020, and from 2028 they are to be replaced by trains of the MF 19 series.
