Seodaemun-gu is a municipality in northwest Seoul . It borders in the northwest on Eunpyeong-gu , in the northeast on Jongno-gu , in the southeast on Jung-gu and in the south on Mapo-gu . The twin borough as of October 3, 2003 is Sumida , Tokyo .

The word Seodaemun is made up of the three syllables Seo = west, Dae = large and Mun = door. Seodaemun can therefore be translated as the west gate .

The notorious Seodaemun Prison is located in Seodaemun-gu, where Korean resistance fighters under Japanese rule were imprisoned between 1908 and 1945 and were often tortured to death and executed.

Sinchon ( 신촌 )

Sinchon is a very popular destination as it is in the middle of four universities. In the evening, many of the students come to Sinchon to eat and then drink.
