Life

After studying music at the Salzburg Mozarteum , he began taking photos in 1976. He mainly specialized in classic black and white portrait photography . His photo series about Thomas Bernhard , Friedrich Gulda , HC Artmann , Maria Lassnig , Elfriede Jelinek and his actor portraits are well known. In 1981 he co-founded the Galerie Fotohof in Salzburg, which developed into an important platform for Austrian photography. The Burgtheater's program preview for the 2006-2007 season was accompanied by a DVD with 100 “cinematic” photos of actors from the castle: in these personal “minute portraits”, as the artist calls them, the bare actors each had to look at the camera for one minute, as motionless as possible. The predecessors of this project were the 2000 photo series Alles Theater , in which he presented 111 actor portraits, and the film burg / privat with 82 actor miniatures, which was presented on the anniversary of the reopening of the Burgtheater in 2005. Since 2000, Sepp Dreissinger has been more concerned with the medium of film. His first film conspecific. 35 minute portraits were shown at the VIENNALE 05 and in 2006 they were awarded the 1st prize of the DIAGONALE as the best short documentary (Diocese of Graz-Seckau). Sepp Dreissinger lives and works in Vienna .
