Sepp Faltermaier (born April 6, 1923 in Moos near Maitenbeth ; † 2005 ) was a German author and wrote primarily for the theater . His best-known work is the historical open-air play "Hottowa".

Life

The son of a shoemaker was born in Maithenbeth as the eleventh of 16 children. After elementary school he became a farmhand until he was drafted into the German armed forces in 1942 and in 1945 in captivity.

After the war he trained in fruit growing and for a fruit tree nursery. In 1948 he married his wife Herta, with whom he had three sons. He started writing in 1946 when the Maitenbeth amateur stage was looking for a piece from the present day and could not find it. Then he wrote one and with the first piece he was successful, it was published by Bauer-Verlag from Mittenwald.

By 1958, 29 stage pieces followed, which were also brought out by Ludwig Schmid-Wildy in the Platzl in Munich. Six novels are also among his works. In 1958, a stroke of fate occurred privately: he lost one of his sons in a terrible accident. He then stopped writing until 1977. During this time, he also worked as a night watchman in order to be able to support his family.

In the meantime his play "The Peasant Diplomat" has been recorded for the Komödienstadl and so encouraged, he tried to write again. Six other plays were created, including "Onkel Peppi" and "Nothelfer".

In the spring of 1988, his television play "The Simple Life" was recorded and broadcast on Bavarian Radio . Faltermaier was an honorary member of the Amerang theater community . In 2005, shortly before he was 82 years old, Sepp Faltermaier died.
