occupation

September - Everything has its time (Original title: Septemper - Ψάχνοντας μια θέση στη ζωή των άλλων ) is a Greek drama by director Penny Panayotopoulou from 2013. The film deals with loneliness.

action

Anna lives alone with her dog Manu in a small apartment. During her working hours in a large furniture store, the dog waits in the car, but she worries about him. Manu is Anna's purpose in life. She reads to him, speaks to him - she has no human friends. Her social environment consists of her work colleagues and occasional phone calls with her mother. Through her dog, Anna gets in contact with her neighbors, Sofia and Stathis, a couple with two children.

Eventually Manu becomes ill and dies shortly afterwards.

In a nightly action, Anna asks her neighbor Sofia to bury Manu on her property. This creates an emotional bond with the neighbors. Anna cannot compensate for the emptiness in her life following the death of the dog. So she sleeps in the car in front of Manu's grave. Sofia tries to comfort Anna.

Ultimately, in her loneliness, Anna pushes her way into the life of the neighboring family. She constructs pretexts for visits. Sofia and Stathis' amicable sympathy turns into tolerance and finally turns into rejection. The situation escalates when Anna goes on a trip with the neighbors' children without their knowledge. It threatens to lose touch with reality.

Towards the end of the film Anna breaks the bridges behind her old life, leaves the city by bus and drives to the sea. She spends a night alone on the beach - in the morning a stray dog runs up to her.
