Septimer (grape variety)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The white wine Septimer is a new breed that in 1927 (in the literature, there are occasionally also the year 1932) at the State Institute for Grapevine Breeding in Alzey by Georg Scheu from the varieties Gewürztraminer and Müller-Thurgau crossed was. Septimer is thus directly related to the Perle variety from Alzey . The information provided by the breeder about the parents of the cross has been confirmed by DNA analysis in the meantime.

The entry in the list of varieties took place in 1971. It has since been withdrawn because of its viticultural deficiencies and has hardly got out of the experimental cultivation stage. Nevertheless, there are occasional plantings.

description

Septimer is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.

The Septimer has a high must weight , but only very low acidity and a bouquet similar to Gewürztraminer . The Würzer variety emerged from the same breeding series and the same pair of parents .
