Serbana borneensis is a species of bug from Southeast Asia .
features
The approximately 15 millimeter long bugs are dark brown in color. They have a flat oval shape. The head, pronotum and abdomen show flap-like lateral bulges ( foliation ). The eyes are divided in the sagittal plane . The bugs occur both fully winged (macropter) and with receding wings (brachypter).
distribution
The species is endemic to the island of Borneo . There are finds both from the north (in Brunei and in the Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak ( Malaysia )) and from the south (in the Mawas reserve in Indonesia ) of the island.
Way of life
The bugs can be found on tree bark, where they are very well camouflaged due to their color and shape.
Taxonomy
Serbana borneensis was first described by Distant in 1906 . Originally, the species was assigned to the Phloeidae family , which consists of three other species and is otherwise only represented in South America. 1953 Serbana borneensis of Leston in the family of stink bugs transferred (Pentatomidae) and there monotypic in the subfamily Serbaninae placed. In 2006, this assignment was confirmed by Rider based on the morphology of the male genitalia. On the basis of morphological analyzes, other authors come to the conclusion that Serbana borneensis sensu lato (“in the broader sense”) belongs to Phloeidae.
